Interested in learning a new way to enjoy Lanna Coffee? We decided to go back to our roots and share with you how to make a traditional Thai Ice Coffee. We know you will enjoy the sweetness and bold coffee flavors of this refreshing drink.
This traditional Thai drink is very common in Thailand and sold by vendors on the street as well as is often offered in Thai restaurants. There are also some variations and ways you can add your own personal flair to this delicious drink.
Here’s what you need:
4 cups of strongly brewed black coffee (We recommend our House Roast)
1 cup of sweetened condensed milk
¾ cup of fresh milk
Ice
- Brew 4 cups of strong coffee, we recommend the drip method and to follow regular brewing instructions, but make sure to make it stronger. The stronger the better! Then place in the refrigerator to chill for roughly 2 hours. The key to making an authentic Thai Ice Coffee is having strong coffee to balance the sweetness of the condensed milk.
- In a small bowl combine condensed milk and fresh milk. Stir the milk and condensed milk until the condensed milk is dissolved completely. Place in the refrigerator to chill.
- When ready to serve, fill four glasses with ice, then evenly divide the milk mixture into each glass, but make sure to leave room for the coffee!
4. Then pour the coffee over the milk and ice. That is 1 cup of coffee in each of the glasses. Give the drink a quick stir and enjoy!
If you want, you can add a few dashes of cardamom after the coffee is brewed to give your drink a spicy and sweet flavor. Adding cardamom makes it more authentic, but not necessary and depends on your preference.
Makes 4 servings
If you want 2 servings, the ingredients change to 2 cups coffee, 1/2 cup sweet and condensed milk and 12 tablespoons of milk.
